Getting out of your comfort zone
I feel so lucky that I got to grow up in New Zealand, but I must say I always felt like I had never really been forced out of my comfort zone and always felt a little lost at what I really wanted to do with my life.
After finishing college I didn't have a clue what career path I wanted to follow. I felt like I had to pick between going to University or having a gap year. After freaking out and feeling like I might waste time, I went straight to University and as soon as I finished my Degree started working fulltime and I quickly fell into the routine of working Monday to Friday and earning money.
After a few months of this routine, I remember waking up one morning and lying in bed thinking that there has to be more to my life than this. Within a week of that thought, I had given my four weeks notice at work and was applying for my one-year working visa in Canada.
Arriving in Canada was one of the scariest days of my life. I remember crying myself to sleep that night in the hostel, wondering what the heck I had done. I remember feeling so scared about trying to make new friends, finding a place to live and getting a job all on my own. But I am so proud I did it! Its shaped me into the person that I am today and has given me the confidence to go after my dreams.
After finishing my one-year work visa in Canada, I did a bit of travelling and then came back to New Zealand with a whole new attitude and a drive to create my dream life, which I feel like I am working towards each day.
What have you done to get out of your comfort zone? My two pieces of advice would be to remember that you can do anything you put your mind to and say yes to more opportunities and put the no word away for awhile xx.
