Weekend in Wellington

I grew up in Wellington and it's such a cool little city and I recommend visiting if you get the chance. I get to go up a wee bit for work but hadn't spent a weekend up there since my sister's wedding, which was over a year ago. This time I was going up for her 30th so made sure I booked flights that allowed me to spend the whole two days.

I recommend putting your walking shoes on as its the best way to explore the city and its the easiest way to get around. We arrived Saturday morning and got picked up from the airport by my sister and her husband and headed straight into town for some coffee, Wellington has the best coffee and so many cafes to try. My sister was booked in to get a makeover at Mecca Cosmetica, so Brad and I were left to explore for a couple of hours and decided to head to Te Papa.

At Te Papa we went to the Gallipoli: The Scale Of Our War exhibition and it was incredible. If you get the chance to go I highly recommend it. The stories are moving and along with the giant sculptures you really feel like you are part of the story. After exploring Te Papa we went for a wander around the waterfront and meet back up with my sister and headed out to Petone.

Petone is a twenty-minute drive from the city. We picked up some giant gold 30 balloons and went to Queen on Jackson for lunch. They have a cool rooftop bar but since its winter and was windy we decided to sit inside at a booth. The food was delicious and is made for sharing so perfect for a group. Definitely looking forward to going again in summer. Saturday night was the party and that was a blast.

On Sunday I wanted to show Brad a bit of Wellington but after a few too many wines the night before we had to sort out our tummies. We headed to Americanos, which is an American Diner and the food was amazing. After this, we got in the car and I gave him a tour of my old school and house and the suburbs of Wellington. Then we came back into town and did the typical tourist thing of riding the cable car and seeing Weta Workshop.

Then we were off to the airport to catch our flight back to Christchurch xxx.
